A team game that probably originated in North America in the mid-18th Century. It is played by teams of nine players over nine innings, in each of which the teams take turns to bat and field. Hitters in the batting team try to score runs against the pitcher of the fielding team, which tries to dismiss them (get them out), an innings ending when three hitters are out.
A game of considerable variety and complexity, it calls on five fundamental skills: catching, pitching, passing, running and batting. The field is in the form of a quarter-circle bounded by two perpendicular lines - the foul lines - that delimit fair and foul territory. Are you a baseball player?
