How to start practicing trekking?

Currently, ecotourism is on the rise worldwide, and new places to visit through the practice of Trekking, also known as Hiking, are continuously being discovered. Shall we learn the difference between the two before talking about it?

WHAT IS TREKKING AND WHAT IS HIKING?

Trekking is a more or less strenuous walk, done on foot in high mountains or hard-to-access areas, with sporting or recreational purposes, carried out over several days, requiring rest in a camp or refuge.

Hiking consists of non-competitive walks, done on foot but in a single day, meaning simple day trips. It usually starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TREKKING?

Some of the greatest benefits are:

  • Physical exercise: even though it is a walk, it demands a lot from the body.
  • Prepares the mind to face difficult and adverse situations.
  • Rests the mind, which escapes from the problems of daily life.
  • You have close contact with nature (flora and fauna) and a feeling of peace.
  • You immerse yourself in beautiful and pristine landscapes (waterfalls, mountains, meadows, caves, etc...)

HOW TO START?

Just know good specialized guides, ecotourism agencies, or groups of friends who carry out this type of activity. Give it a try! Besides establishing close contact with nature, you connect with other people and make many friends!

To try your first excursions, you just need to be in good health and always start with lighter and shorter walks, until your body gets used to it. Try to wear comfortable shoes, light clothing, and always carry a small backpack with your personal belongings, snacks, and water for hydration.
